- Our "Empowder" is a second skin based on the human agency for identifying the face’s movements. The special effects approach hides the electronics of the makeup by using a material that mimics skin. The application Winkymote is an infrared remote control for individuals with quadriplegic disability. Winkymote simulates a remote control device for interacting not only with on-the-shelf appliances like TV sets but also with intelligent objects made with a specific purpose in mind like a projector controller. Winkymote was prototyped for Felipe, a 33-year-old master student in Administration. He used to be a jujitsu player but hurt himself during a training session 13 years ago and since then has a quadriplegic disability. Felipe uses a speech recognition system keyboard replacement for controlling his computer but depends on others to do common tasks such as changing TV channels. Empowered by Winkymote, he is capable of changing the channels up and down and of turning the TV on and off by blinking with his left, right and both eyes.
